We're only in year 0 here on Helping Hens Farm, but our existing flock is starting to lay quite well as the days get longer. We're getting right around a dozen eggs a day, which is far more than we can eat, obviously. We give extras to family and friends, but when the eggs are coming in this fast, even with sharing the fridge is often pretty full.
At times like this last year, I would bring extras to the food pantry run by a local church in town on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
Today was our first opportunity to donate in 2020. We were able to bring 6 dozen eggs to go to neighbors in need. It's not a lot, but it's a start.
A year from now, I hope we'll be distributing a LOT more farm fresh eggs to those in need. Yeah, this is gonna be good...
